That Texas Blood #17, Chris Condon, Jacob Phillips, Image
This new arc of That Texas Blood started with a bang, and has slowly been building momentum, issue by issue. In issue seventeen, we’ve reached a boiling point. Everything is starting to line up beautifully, for something horrible to happen again.
This issue is especially cinematic in its use of the three-act structure to tell three different stories at once. We jump between the Red Queen Killer breaking into an empty house, Lu driving through the blizzard, and Sheriff Joe Bob and Wilson recounting the story of the death of the former Sheriff in 1988. It’s hard to say how all of these things are related without spoiling it, so I’ll leave it at that.
That being said, I’m really impressed with how this story has progressed, and the pacing that Chris Condon has introduced to this arc. It’s very well planned out how the different pieces of the story intersect with each other. He and Jacob Phillips work really well together, as the story and beautiful artwork are reaching new heights with each issue. I’m really looking forward to the next two issues, and as always, this book comes very highly recommended.
This was a really light week for me, but this issue made it worth it. Still working to catch up, but hope you enjoy these in the meantime. Thanks for reading!
